Industrial Design Patrick Scofield is the President of Concept Designworx, Inc., an Arizona-based design firm specializing in brand, print, graphic, industrial, and e-media design.He holds a BA in Design Sciences from Arizona State University.He founded CDI in 1990 after practicing design for some of the largest design firms in the nation.He has designed for a variety of notable clients, including Airbus, ASML, Arizona Kidney Foundation, The Government of Gila County, Goodrich, Honeywell and Motorola. Former President of the Arizona Chapter of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), Patrick serves on the Design Advisory Board at ASU, where he lectures regularly.His close relationship with ASU, a Research-I institution, allows him a unique access to many progressive and groundbreaking research activities taking place in all areas of design, while CDI provides the place where true application takes place. Patrick's interest in Experience-Based Design (EBD) emerged as the result of a degree of frustration that he experienced over several years with many aspects of the traditional design methodology.Patrick found that EBD offered new ways to bring excellence to the practice of design.EBD remains a novel methodology, practiced by only a handful of designers nationwide and typically only in the area of Industrial Design.Having applied the tenets of EBD to all kinds of design in his professional practice, Patrick has experienced its usefulness in increasing the suitability, usefulness, justification and longevity of industrial, print, graphic, and web design. Patrick believes that EBD does not need to remain the domain of a few elite designers.He envisions a place for the principles and methods of EBD in all areas of design and product development.He developed the series of FarSight Workshops to help knit corporate culture to this developing creative methodology.In anticipation of a continually flourishing experience economy, Patrick developed the workshops to introduce all participants to the principles of EBD, and to allow them to begin to become educated practitioners of an exciting, emergent methodology that will have immediate, practical application.
